About Me
I am an Assistant Professor of Urban Studies at NYU Shanghai. My research focuses on the technological, economic, and regulatory mechanisms contributing to a range of housing-related outcomes in urban areas. I have particular interests in fintech mortgage lending, housing affordability, homelessness, neighborhood change, housing as a social determinant of health, and racial and ethnic disparities in access to housing resources. I strive to design studies that inform policy and produce actionable results for legislators, regulators, planners, and advocacy organizations. I also incorporate data science methods in my work, leveraging new ‘big data’ sources, web-scraped data, and complex administrative data sets to answer pressing urban questions.
I am a faculty affiliate at NYU's Furman Center, the NYU Wagner School of Public Service, the Social Policy Institute at Washington University in St. Louis, and at NYU Shanghai's Center for Applied Social and Economic Research (CASER) and Key Laboratory of Urban Design and Urban Science (LOUD). I have professional experience in the public education, affordable housing development, and research sectors, most recently at Skid Row Housing Trust and Columbia World Projects. I hold a PhD in Urban Planning from Columbia University's Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation (GSAPP), a Master in Urban Planning degree from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design (GSD) and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Pepperdine University.
